The best way to improve our vocabulary and familiarize ourselves with the correct spelling of words is by reading.  This way, when we look at words, we have a general feel if a word is misspelled or not.

Another helpful tip is to search for the commonly misspelled words on the internet.  Try writing the words down to see how they look on paper.

“Gone” is the past participle of “go”.  If used in a sentence, a past participle needs an auxiliary verb such as be, do, have, had, has, am, is, are, was, were. The correct answer is D “Had gone”.

Note: Past participle is the form of a verb that expresses an action that has been done or completed already.

⦁ “Go” is wrong because it is in present tense and the sentence is clearly in the past tense

To convert 3/5 to decimal form, simply divide the numerator by the denominator.  3 divided by 5 is 0.60.

The fastest way to solve this is to work our way through the choices and determine the increase in sales versus the previous month.

⦁For November, the increase in sales is 40 (220-180)

⦁For March: 50 (150-100)

⦁For August: 10 (200-190)

⦁For October: 40 (180-140)

Clearly, the answer is (b) March with an increase of 50.

Tip:  Always be ready with paper and pencil to jot down notes and calculations.  When presented with a lot of data, learn to focus only on what is required, scan the choices and work quickly from there.

Do not try to absorb all the data.  We are only given a limited amount of time so use it wisely.

The best tip in solving this type of question is by developing the skill of speed reading, where we read a passage quickly while trying to get a feel of what it is all about.

Then, the fastest approach is to scan the choices and work our way through by the process of elimination.

The first is wrong because although passion is mentioned, it is not the main idea of the passage

The second is also wrong because hard work is not even mentioned in the passage

The third is wrong because the passage does not talk about investing in knowledge

The fourth is the correct answer because this statement is supported by the passage, where great leaders achieved success through knowledge.

Statements A, B and D are about listening more than talking.   Only statement C is different, where it does not say anything about listening.

The best tip to answer this type of question quickly is to eliminate choices as quickly as you can!

A Is wrong because the passage does not say anything about good musicians

B Is also wrong because the passage does not say anything about good friends

C Could be true but we cannot be so sure that Ana loves playing the violin; the passage only states that Ana plays the violin

D Is TRUE; we can be sure that Ana loves music because the passage supports this statement; “Ana is a new friend” and “All of my friends love music”.  Therefore, Ana, being a friend, loves music.

“However” is used as an adverb here, describing the intensity of the strictness of the parents.  It is most suitable and grammatically correct to use as compared to the other choices.

Ten years after, the mother will be 30 years old, while the child will be 10 years old. Hence, the mother will be thrice the age of her son.

Word analogy will challenge our ability to see relationships between the words.  Human Anatomy belongs to the science of Biology.  Hence, we have to determine the branch of science where the periodic table belongs to:  CHEMISTRY.
